Fire Safety
Fire safety for children
Fire administrators are encouraging all Americans to do three major things in an attempt to increase fire safety in every home. First make sure that there are fire alarms installed in the home and that they are working properly, second, plan an escape route, and lastly, do a family home fire safety walkthrough. Statistics show us that smoke alarms have reduced fire fatalities by fifty percent, that's how vital they are to fire safety .
There have been news reports of late relating the fact that many children actually sleep through smoke alarms, but they still remain your home's first line of defense against a home fire. The fact remains that 60% of fires that end in fatalities happen in homes that do not have smoke alarms. And of those, most occur in homes where the smoke alarms had dead or no batteries.
Early fire safety education
We cannot rely solely on fire alarms for total fire safety . They are just a facet of the entire fire escape plan that should b in place in our home. Parents need to recognize their role in the family's plan and then go over that plan with the children in the house as well. Do a few walkthroughs to give everyone a good idea of the route that will be taken in the event of a fire. Conduct a fire drill at night while he kids are sleeping so that their response can be gauged and improved upon.
Technology is constantly adding to the pool of fire safety products that are available to the public, but they will never entirely eliminate the risk of death or injury as a result of a fir in the home. Families must also do their part to properly maintain all the safety products in the home and have a plan of action that incorporates the entire family.
