The next step in emergency safety is putting together a workable plan. Find out from the local authorities what they recommend that each family have on hand in the event of a disaster. Also ask for suggestions for the plan that your family will put into place. Once you are armed with this knowledge, sit down as a family and discuss the plan, asking for suggestions to get the kids more interested- this way they will really fell like part of the team and have a better understanding of the plan once it needs to be implemented. Go over the plan with the family once it is in place and do a few practice rounds so that it is not a surprise when the time comes that it is necessary.
