Driving safety has become ever important with the inclusion of the new age gadgets that are part of the standard package for some vehicles. These items run the gamut from high tech sound systems to complete video systems. Throw cell phones and PDA's into the mix, and you have a recipe for a driving safety disaster. As with any updated gadgets, the temptation to use them to their fullest is sometimes too much to resist.

That's all well and good until people begin to use them while driving. When driving safety becomes clouded by these types of distractions, it is time to crackdown on those who abuse the privilege.

We have all seen a fellow motorist come perilously close to an accident while radio channel surfing, fumbling with a CD or talking on a cell phone. These types of problems have only become compounded with the addition of subwoofers, hydraulic systems and people's perceived ability to multi-task while driving.

New laws are making their way through federal and state governments banning the use of these distractions while driving. Common sense dictates that you should pull over to the side of the road if you plan on beginning a conversation or changing the radio station. However, common sense rarely plays a part in our desire to use our electronic goodies.

The use of cell phones while driving has become second nature, and, more importantly, dangerous. Due to a large number of accidents, the state of New York has banned their use when driving a moving vehicle. Many other states are lining up to follow suit as a way to improve driving safety in their jurisdictions.

The world of technology and gadgetry is always changing the way we communicate or entertain ourselves. As advances are made in these areas, it is also important to observe how they affect our lives in other ways. The subject of driving safety should always be considered first in our zeal to try the newest brain stimulators.
